Reading Tips For Parents Of Preschoolers

       It is never too early to begin reading to your child! The tips below offer some fun ways you can assist your child become a happy and confident reader. 

1. Read together every day. 

2. Give everything a name. Build your child's vocabulary by talking about interesting words and objects. For example, "Look at that bird! That bird is sitting on the branch." 

3. Read slowly but show delight and enthusiasm as you read. 

4. Know when to stop. Put the book away for awhile if your child loses interest or is having difficulty paying attention.

5. Be interactive. Point to the pictures.  Ask questions pertaining to the illustrations.

6. Let your child act out parts of the story.

7. Keep books easily accessible and visible in your home. 

8. When necessary, simplify stories so they are shorter, easier to follow and more fun for your child.

Reading is fun! Your enthusiasm will make a difference.
