STRATEGIES TO INCREASE LANGUAGE

This month's strategy is: AUDITORY BOMBARDMENT

When children are learning new words, they often need to hear a word many times before they begin to say that word. So model that word repeatedly! If your child is learning the word “hot” you may say something like: Ooh, that food is hot, let’s blow on it. Is it still hot? A little hot. Let’s blow on it again. Oh good, it’s not hot anymore. Feel it- not hot!). Though you may get bored saying the same word over and over again, this repetition will help your child to understand new words more quickly.
